What is the "County Clerk" requirement?
Notarized documents must first be certified by the County Clerk of the county where the notary is certified to notarize. Birth, death and marriage certificates issued by a local or county official must first be certified by the County Clerk of the county where they were issued; those issued by the NYS Department of Health need no County Clerk certification. NYC birth and death records also require a Letter of Exemplification and New York County Clerk certification. NYC marriage records must first be certified by the New York County Clerk's Office. The County Clerk's fee for certifying a notary's signature is $3.
